Hiking between nature and tradition

Beautiful and varied trails for all needs can be found in our area. Comfortable walkers will get their money as well as demanding mountain freaks. In the valley easy, pleasant excursions are possible as the characteristic paths. At higher altitudes, well-marked paths can be found.

From Vilpiano's village center you can reach the natural monument "Unterer Wasserfall" in just 10 minutes walk. The waterfall is 82 m high and is fed by the Möltner Bach. In front of the waterfall you walk past the old 17th century Vilpian waterfall; the water served to operate the mill and irrigate the fields.

Within a few minutes you reach the cable car Vilpian-Mölten (WinePass). This brings you to the Tschögglberg, a mountain ridge between Bolzano and Merano with his high plateau Salten: A paradise for hiking and relaxing.

Castle Maultasch & the „Stoanernen Mandln“

A hike to the ruins of Maultasch Castle is a must for every hiker in the area and a destination that is also very suitable for families with buggies. Once built by the Counts of Tyrol, it is today popularly called "Maultasch". The castle got this name through the toll station "mala tasca" (mousetrap) below. According to myths Countess of Tyrol "Margarete Maultasch" enjoyed her holiday at her favorite place, Neuhaus Castle near Vilpian. Something more demanding from the point of view is a hike to the Stoanernen Mandln (which in South Tyrolean dialect means as much as "stone males"). More than a hundred stone figures can be found at this legendary place - in their midst the summit cross of the Schöneck. What's up with these mythical figures and how they came about is still puzzling.

Knottenkino & Wine Route

It is also recommended the "Knottenkino". The Knottnkino consists of 30 steel and chestnut chairs. They request the hikers to sit down and to enjoy the unique view over the Adige Valley as in a movie theater. From the comfortable cinema chair you can see the entire Adige Valley with the Meraner basin, star-shaped branch off the side valleys. Behind, the Dolomites rise majestically and on the horizon the peaks of the Ötztal Alps and the Texel Group Nature Park.

A homelike hike over the Terlano wine route leads you through the Terlano wine culture. Gourmets and asparagus fans enjoy the delicious dishes of the special asparagus weeks every spring. Accompanied by the Terlano Sauvignon, which is considered to be the ideal asparagus wine, the highest delights are to be expected.
